We hope that we can address most of the questions that you might have regarding DVD X Copy Xpress!
Why will the Backup I just created play back on my computer but not on my home DVD player?
If you are getting a backup that plays back fine on your computer, but not on your DVD player, this can be caused by several things. --- Your DVD player does not support playing the format of blank dvd you are using. Some DVD players only support playback of DVD +r/rw or -r/rw, or sometimes neither. You may also try a different brand of blank DVD. --- Some DVD Players do not like playing compressed media. Compressed media can sometimes overload the chip inside the player. This causes no damage, but the disc will not play. In order to test out whether this is the case, try to play the disc in a different DVD player, one that you know supports playback of your format of blank disc. If it plays back, you will know it is your player.

The playback on my backup is pixilated and/or moves slowly. What can I do?
1. Check for any Black listed software on the PC.
The following programs can cause problems while using our software.
1. B's Clip: This package will load packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove programs, and then reboot to remove it. For more information, visit the B's website at http://www.bhacorp.com.
2. Direct CD or Drag to Disk: These are applications from Easy CD Creator from Roxio. This package will load packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. To remove them you need to do to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel. There you can select Easy CD Creator to change, not remove. Then you must click next until it gives you the option to modify. Then either Direct CD or Drag to Disk should be selected and changed to "make this option not available". Then click next and while the program may look like it is installing, it is removing those options. One thing to remember is that both Direct CD and Drag to Disk will not be installed at the same time. For more information, please visit Roxio's website at http://www.roxio.com/en/support.index.jhtml
3. GoBack: backup software that constantly runs in the background (Terminate and Stay Ready) this needs not only to be turned off, but disabled. Unfortunately, this may cause some restore points to vanish, but it will free up a lot of hard drive space. For more information visit Symantec's web site for GoBack at http://www.symantec.com/goback/index.html
4. DLA: Also HP-DLA, Veritas DLA, and others. DLA stands for Disk Letter Assignment. This package will load packet-writing software that will constantly talk to your CD/DVD writer, and can cause a number of issues while trying to write a disc. Disabling this software is not enough, as a portion of this package is always running after you start windows. You will need to uninstall it in Add/Remove programs, and then reboot to remove it.
5. InCD: This is packet writing software that comes bundled with Ahead Nero Burning Rom. For more information go to Nero's website at http://www.nero.com/en/
6. Interactual Player and PC Friendly Player: These programs are DVD software viewers that often come on DVD movie discs, and will try to install themselves every time you watch a movie on your computer. Please make sure to NOT let these install. Both programs interfere with all 321 Studios software and should be un-installed from Add or Remove programs in control panel when found. In some cases, you will need to uninstall and reinstall our software to restore functionality after removing one of these. For more information about both players, visit http://player.interactual.com/
7. McAfee Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, McAfee needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive. For more info go to McAfee's website at http://us.mcafee.com/default.asp
8. Norton Anti-Virus: This is anti-virus software that when running, can cause errors. It needs to be disabled by right clicking on the icon in the lower right side of the task bar and the automatic updates should be disabled. The 321 Studios software then needs to be restarted. Whenever you are using our software, Norton needs to be disabled to ensure unrestricted access to your drive. The Norton Website is http://www.symantec.com/
9. StopZilla: StopZilla can hinder required portions of our installer, causing the software to fail. Please completely disable StopZilla, and then install our software. Once our software is installed, you may safely enable it again. If you have any difficulty using our software at a later time, you may need to disable StopZilla before going to use our software. Uninstallation is not required.
10. MyStorageGuard: This backup software can hinder certain required files from being copied during the installation. Please disable this program before installing our software, and have it disabled any time you go to use our software. Uninstallation is not required.
11. Napster 2.0: This software includes some basic burning software that can cause burning problems if it is running. You will need to close this program completely before trying to use our software. In some rare cases, you will need to completely uninstall this package to attain full reliability, so if disabling does not solve your issue, please try uninstalling this software, and try again.
12. Easy CD Creator 4.x: Due to the age of this package, it is no longer updated by the authors. There are bugs present in this older system that will cause NUMEROUS problems on your machine, not just with our software. Please Uninstall completely, and consider either the new 6.x version from Roxio (http://www.roxio.com) or Nero 6.x (http://www.nero.com). These packages, installed without the Packet Writing software (DirectCD/Drag to Disk/InCD), all work very well together with our software.
2. Run Msconfig... MSConfig - Cleaning Windows Startups Certain programs running in the background can use system resources and cause our software to experience burning issues.
To disable your start up group go to start, run, and type in msconfig and hit enter, then click on the startup tab.
Windows XP (Home & Pro): If you are running Windows XP you will click the disable all button in the startup tab. Go to the services tab; check the option to "Hide all Microsoft services". In the remaining items uncheck anything that deals with the antivirus installed on your computer (i.e. Norton, MacAfee, Symantec, and PC-Cillin).
Windows Me: If you are running Windows Me disable all items that are not Windows system processes.
Windows 98: If you are running Windows 98 disable all items except for Systray, Explorer and Scanreg.
Windows 2000: Windows 2000 does not have this utility; please make sure to close all programs through your system tray.
3. Check your computer for Spyware and Adware
Some programs can install other software that can be damaging to your Operating System. Please scan for these programs with a Spyware utility. We recommend Ad-Aware, available freely at www.lavasoftusa.com.
4. Update the ASPI layer on your computer. This is the communication layer between our software and your burner. By updating this you are helping to improve the communication. Therefore you are creating a more reliable backup.
Please update your ASPI software by installing the ASPI installation found at http://www.adaptec.com. Follow the instructions carefully for this installation, and make sure to reboot afterwards.
Please remember, if you perform any of these changes, you may need to uninstall our software, and then re-install to fix any damage left. If you find some of these packages, please shut down and reboot twice to ensure that the last pieces of the conflicting software are completely removed.
What do I do if I get "Error Writing Disk?"
Some movies have incompatible Titlesets or DVD authoring problems that result in problems backing them up. Below are some things you can try:
1) TDF: A TDF file will not fix a failed backup. TDF files do not correct driver problems or bugs that may exist in the application. However, if you successfully create a backup but the backup has the incorrect titleset, audio language, video format, or subtitle on it, it is likely that a TDF file will fix the problem. You can go to http://forum.321studios.com/?f=66&m=2521 and check for a TDF for the movie you are having problems with. Click the link and open with XPRESS.
2) Uncheck the entire disk option when using Simple mode.
3) When using Platinum only select the largest title set to burn.
4) Change the location to another folder, for example "C:\TempMovie". The root of the drive, for example "C:\" or "D:\", will not work properly, and the temp must point to a folder. Please make sure that the new drive is over 9.4Gb in size.
What does a Power Calibration Failed error mean?
OPC (Optical Power Calibration) errors are related to the drive trying to test how strong to make the burning laser. If you recieve this error, the piece of media you are using may have problems. Once the error occurs once on any piece of media, click past the error messages. This will return to the burn screen and eject the media from the drive. Insert the SAME blank media again, then click refresh. The status in XCopy should change to green and give a message of ready to burn again. Click burn, and the burn process should continue as normal. If the error occurs again, please make sure that the blank media you are using is on the compatibility list for your drive, and that you are not running any software listed on the DVDXCopy Black List. Also, if you recently had the DVD burner installed you will want to make sure you have a strong enough power supply to power all of your system devices. Newer PC's with high end processors need more power and are more likely to need a higher wattage power supply. If there is not enough wattage to go around, the drive cannot muster enough laser power to burn the disk.
Why am I getting an error "Cannot Write Archive.txt"?
DVD X Copy XPRESS is trying to write information to an invalid location. You need to change the location of your Temp Path. Create a folder on a hard drive with at least 10Gb free space. Go to Options in XPRESS and make sure your Temp Path points to this new folder.
Why must I remove programs from the blacklist for XPRESS to work?
Our software is not aggressive and will yield to other processes that are trying to access the DVD writer. When in the burn process with our product you want to eliminate any interference, hence the removal or disabling of conflicting software. With the conflicting programs usually only a particular component needs to be removed, the program itself need not be removed completely. With programs that do need to be removed entirely an alternative program, that does not conflict, can replace it.
Will XPRESS allow me to fit a 2 disk movie onto 1 blank DVD disk?
No. Platinum will allow a 1:1 ratio for original to blank disc.
Will XPRESS allow you to backup up more than one movie to a blank disc?
Sorry, You can only burn one movie to a blank DVD disc.
Will XPRESS allow you to keep a movie on the hard drive for future backups?
No it will not. Our software creates an image file after reading a DVD and then takes that image and writes it to a blank DVD disc. It will not stay on your hard drive.
